1. If you could have only one meal every day forever, what would it be?
For many years while I was working as a primary teacher I ate a toasted cheese sandwich for lunch every day. You might think that would put me off toasted cheese sandwiches but in fact the opposite happened in that I fell totally in love with toasted cheese and would eat one a day if my heart was ok with that. So I will pick a nice cheese toastie as my forever food.
2. What is your favourite word?
What a tough question as there are so many beautiful words. Current favourites are the words: Pits, wallop and scourge. But the top of the heap would have to be: Flounder, which is a type of fish and also means to stagger clumsily in water.
3. What are you most afraid of?
I am most afraid of my kids getting hurt. If one of them so much as gets a hangnail I get ill and so am pretty useless in a crisis.
4. What was your favourite book when you were in primary school?
I loved Stig of the Dump with such a passion that I must have read it a hundred times. It was a huge influence on the writing I would go on to do.
5. If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would it be?
Another great question. I think I would like to be trapped in one of the more fantastical series so I could experience something different to the ordinary world. It’s a tough decision but I think choose Star Trek and boldly go where no Irish man (except Colm Meaney) has been before.
